marketJune 31, 2013— Bought the land that would become the home of Lucky George Farm.

July 8, 2013— The family (Jason, Angela, Rian, Harrisen, Ari, Fremont, and Wallace with Sidne away at UNI) moved to Lucky George Farm outside of Derby, IA.

May 10, 2014— Debuted our first day at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market in Des Moines, IA.

August 7-17, 2014— Exhibited Big Boy, a Large Black barrow, on the Avenue of Breeds at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, IA.

October 18, 2014— Completed our first season of the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market as occasional vendors in Des Moines, IA.

October 23, 2014— Farmer Angela creates Heritage Purebred Pigs, a group on FaceBook, dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Heritage/Traditional pig breeds around the world. Currently 1,822 members strong and growing.

October 25, 2014— Exhibited Cora, a Large Black sow, at the Mother Earth Fair in Lawrence, KS.

November 14-15, 2014— Donated Cora, a Large Black sow, to be eaten and enjoyed by the attendees of the Livestock Conservancy National Conference in Austin, TX.

March 1, 2015— Provided Violet, a Large Black sow, to Chef Thomas Boemer of Corner Table and Revival as part of the Cochon 555 competition. He created pork masterpieces with Violet, was judged by a panel of judges including Andrew Zimmern, and by the event’s attendees. Chef Boemer won the event in Minneapolis, MN.

May 2, 2015— Opened our second season at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market in Des Moines, IA.

June 3-5, 2015— Attended the 2015 World Pork Expo in Des Moines, IA.

June 20, 2015— Provided Beckham, a Large Black barrow, to Chef Thomas Boemer of Corner Table and Revival as part of the national Grand Cochon competition. He created amazing bites to the delights of celebrity judges Tyler Florence and Andrew Zimmern as well as the event’s attendees. Chef Boemer won the national competition in Snowmass, CO.

August 13-23, 2015— Exhibited Ringo, a Large Black barrow, on the Avenue of Breeds at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, IA.

October 13, 2015— Farmer Jason and Farmer Angela marry each other on their 20th year anniversary at the Lucas County Courthouse in Chariton, IA.

October 31, 2015— Completed our second season at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market as full-time vendors . Farmer Jason attended all but one of weekend of the season in Des Moines, IA.

November 26-30, 2015— Farmer Jason and Farmer Angela  purchased the grand-daughter of Poplarburn Grandeur 118, a  pig that was exported to the United States from Great Britain in 1998. We named her Glory and she is one of the last of her bloodline in the world. At the time of purchase she was a 3 year old gilt that had never been exposed to a boar. This trip was over 1,900 miles traveled taking us all the way from our farm in Iowa to southern Mississippi and the Gulf of Mexico.

February 21, 2016— Provided Harry and Hermione, a Large Black barrow and a Large Black sow, to the Cochon 555 competition. Chefs from Travails Kitchen and Amusements as well as Surly Brewing Company will be delighting attendees this year with our Large Black pork in Minneapolis, MN.

February 21, 2016— Chef Jorge Guzman WINS Minneapolis Cochon 555 with Hermione, the Large Black pig from Lucky George Farm, making him eligible to go to the National competition in Snowmass, CO.

April 14-24, 2016— Farmer Angela travels to Great Britain to visit the farms of Large Black breeders across England. The purpose was to learn from farmers that have decades of experience raising, breeding, and showing purebred Large Blacks. Counties visited include: Cheshire, Gloucestershire, Greater London, Hereford, Somerset, Stafford, and Wiltshire.

April 17, 2016— Farmer Angela is the first American to ever attend a Large Black Pig Breeders’ Club Annual General Meeting (AGM). The meeting was a historical event that was well attended by breeders from across England, Brian Kelly from Northern Ireland, as well as Farmer Angela all meeting at the home of Adrian & Jane Andrews. The Andrews own and run Drewmain Stud in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, UK.

April 23, 2016— Farmer Angela attends the Gloucestershire Old Spots Pig Breeders’ Club Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Everes’ Farm in Redmarley, Gloucestershire, UK.

May 7, 2016— Debuted our first day at the Ames Main Street Farmers’ Market in Ames, IA.

May 7, 2016— Opened our third season at the Downtown Des Moines Farmers’ Market in Des Moines, IA.

June 1, 2016–Debuted our first day at the Overland Park Farmers’ Market in Overland Park, KS.

June 8-10, 2016— Attended the 2016 World Pork Expo in Des Moines, IA.

June 18, 2016— Provided Henry, a Large Black barrow, to Jorge Guzman of Surly Brewing Company for the Grand Cochon competition in Snowmass, CO.

August 3-4, 2016— Farmer Angela and Farmer Rian attended the Midwest Boar Stud Managers Conference in St. Louis, MO.

August 11-21, 2016— Exhibited Bertie, a Large Black gilt, on the Avenue of Breeds at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, IA.

August 28, 2016— Debuting in the Warren County Farm Tour selling our meats at our host farm, Edge of the Woods Raspberry Farm outside of Indianola, IA.

September 23, 2016— Lucky George Farm is featured on the IPTV television show, Market to Market, an agricultural staple in the United States.

October 2, 2016— Debuting at Farm Crawl, a farm tour of Marion and Northern Lucas counties that includes eight family farms. Our host for the day is Reichert’s Dairy Air located just south of Knoxville, IA.

Fall of 2016— We are having our first human baby while living at Lucky George Farm. Details to follow after her arrival…
